I've got some 17" Ikon rims, they're gunmetal, with a white IKON center cap.

The white center cap doesn’t match the blue/black theme I've got on my car, and I was thinking about painting it, but I'd rather just put a darker center cap in.

I realize center caps are not universal (or are they?)
Where would I go to buy one? EBay has tones, but they're mostly for stock rims...

They are not universal but you can custom ones done up at a local sign shop for 50 bucks or so....or get the diameter of yours and find out if they are the same as the OEM ones, but slim chances on that

I accidentally broke a couple retaining tabs on one of my center caps when I was taking them off...Thank god for epoxy!

You're right, they're not universal. But I have seen many a center cap on eBay, some OEM, some aftermarket. From the listings I've seen, most people put the exact dimensions of the cap in the listing. No guarantee you'll find one the same size as yours, but it's worth a look. I suppose, if you wanted to get a little ghetto about it, you could get one slightly smaller and build up the part that goes into the wheel with tape or something. Post pics if you get new ones to fit. Good luck.

i measured the center part of my rims...and it is 2 11/16 inches. so they work for me.
