Steering Wheel Shake

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question but I though I'd ask the experts before I sent my car to the shop...

I recently swapped wheels with my g/f cuz I had a long road trip and she's got some nice and quiet touring tires. When I got home and put my tires back on I noticed that my steering wheel now has a shake in it when I'm going faster than about 65... This wasn't there before I swapped the tires and I'm thinking that one of the wheels is out of balance. Question to you guys is will having my tires balanced fix this vibration?

yeah, i had the same problem w/ my old car... at 85mph or higher, the steering wheel would shake. You need to balance your tires and get an alignment if that doesn't solve the problem

You probably put the wheels/tires that was on the back in the front and vice-versa. I rotated the tires on my wife's car and the steering wheel started to shake because some uneven wear from the back tires (the new front tires) was causing the shaking. When the tires were in the back, the vibration was undetectable.

You should either swap your current fronts to the back (and back to front) or get new tires.

one problem could be that you over-torqued your lug-nuts, mine were done too-tight, and it was a horrible ride.
2.) you could have a bent wheel
3.) tire bald, flat-spot
4.) out-of-balance
5.) bad-tire, separation on tread.
those are acouple common problems with customers at my job.

You could be riding on one lug, like one tire shop decided to do to me.

When I took it to the tire shop to get them balanced, they said the tires were worn down in such a way that balancing them wouldn't stop the vibration. I just wound up getting new tires anyways since they were the original tires on the car from 2000. (this was earlier this summer).
