braking

hi gang on my o3 civic lx my braking is weak to say the least. i changed the pads to the top of the line bosch but that didnt help. so now i was looking into going with a new set of crossdrilled rotors and some 2 piston calipers. can someone recommend a good set of calipers for me? and should i upgrade the mastercylinder as well?

pads and rotors aren't really gonna help brake performance. and stock brakes are pretty good overall. why do you need better.

you probably didnt let your brakes break in yet. make sure you bedded the pads in properly and they should start to bite harder. yes, like Gearbox said, our stock setup is pretty good; i even retain it for road racing. if worse comes to worse, i'd suggest better pads, such as Hawk or PBR AXXIS.

if changing the pads and rotors didnt fix your problem, you should check the fluids and yeah the mastercylinder. low pressure or air in the system causes weak braking

Get some pads geared towards performance. Bosch pads are just DD pads. Xdrilled rotors do nothing, and 2 pot calipers would screw up the bias beyond belief.
Decient pads, blank rotors and DOT4 fluid do wonders. It's not an M3, don't expect miracles.

The stock brakes are strong enough, but they do fade VERY quickly.

spongy brake pedal is common symptom of air in the lines, but you said it's been changed/bled couple times and sure it's not the mc...

can you isolate if the front discs, or the rear drums are the weak ones? are there any leaks? the only other suggestions i can say is to check the booster and check the pump.

probably something with the fluid. how many miles on your car? has the fluid ever been changed? i'd look into getting that done, its not too much to have honda do it.

either there is air in the lines, or you can look into swapping to a RSX brake mastercylinder but that costs $$$$

Welcome to honda brakes...

couple of things here, Make sure theres no air in the lines, and you may want to go to a pad thats got higher inital coefficient of friction.

other wise.... Honda brakes tend to feel like your stepping on a sponge, but they really stop fine.

if you dont liek the "spongy" feel... you can always upgrade to steel brakelines. with those you cant go wrong. it will help eliminate the lines from somewhat ballooning when you step on the brakes compared to the rubber ones. other than that, i would upgrade the pads to performance ones and if you have drums on your rear, better shoes.
