Question Help, ABS is making a whinning sound

Today was a really bad snow day, like a foot of snow fell overnight. The ABS was kicking in everytime I brake today. For the 1st time since owning my 05 Civic, I began getting a whining sound whenever the ABS engaged. I feel the pulses on the brake pedal and hear the clicking, but now I also get that whining sound each time the ABS kicks in. Sounds almost like a motor or something is spinning up. There is no whining sound if the ABS did not engaged and I don't get any warning lights or ABS light on the dash. And I haven't noticed anything else differently, the car still stops.

Is there anything wrong with my brakes? I can't get the car into the dealer for another 2 weeks to check out.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

It's normal. Everytime my ABS engages, I also hear a motor like sound. You'll hear the motor like sound everytime you start the car, when the car performs its ABS diagnostics after each startup and evertime the ABS engages. The lights only come on when the ABS is doing its diagnostics after you start the car and engage into Drive. It will stay on if there are problems. The ABS light doesn't come on when the ABS is engaged.

that is a sign that it is working. that is either good because it is helping you slow down, or bad because or you're driving too fast that you actually need to tap into the abs, but I guess since it is in the snow, it isn't all your fault. Oh yes, another thing, it becomes more noticeable in snow because the car is also overcoming the fact that there is less friction to slow down, so it will work harder in snow/ice/rain.

Its normal, it tightens up the brake pedal.

Thanks everyone for the info. I was confused because I have never heard that motor whin sound before when the ABS engaged before now, but then I had never driven in this much snow either, like 10". Stopping was a bitch, I guess the stock Firestone 699 aren't helping either.

Thanks again to everyone for soothing my nerves.
