HELP ! question for my wheels offset/size

I drive a 03 EL (03 civic sedan), the stock specs for the tires/wheels are:
185/65/15 , 15x6

so i just ordered a set of buddy club P1 racing II plus rims, the specs are:
17x7.5, offset +42

I ordered them because I confirmed with the seller that these will fit no problem on my car, but today when i was chating with my friend, this is how she interpreted it:

7.5 width is ABSOLUTELY too wide for our cars. given that the offset is smaller (pushes the wheel outward), plus the wider width of the wheels (the wheel goes out more) it is going to STICK out the fender for sure... (this will cause problem with cops)
not only that, since the stock width is 6", and the BC rims are 7.5", the 1.5" increase would RUB FOR SURE... given that i lowered my car slightly more than 2"
what do you guys think?
am I going to have problems with these rims? with what size tires?
i was looking to 225/40/17, but i think for my stock car, with 225 tires... my car cannot move... tooooo slow.
so what do you guys think about 215/40/17? is there any problem that i may need to consider?

Where did you find the buddy club p1 racing ll plus? I've been looking for them in 17x7.5 4x100 et42 in "gunmetallic" for three months now...every vendor i've emailed online only has hyper gold and gunmetal is on backorder with all of them.

for those who have had experience with 17" x 7.5" rims, and said it's fine to go with this size, do you mean it fits no problem, or do you mean it fits no problem and it DOESN'T RUB ?
