HONDA recommended brake maintanence
Hey guys just wondering how important it is to get the "Brake Maintanence" done on your civics.
Let me paint the picture for you
2002 Civic Si (CDN Model), only 35,000km (25,000 miles or so dunno the actual conversion). Standard transmission ... Never had brakes looked at, but I have no shaking, rattling, squeaking or anything.
My friend who is a GM mechanic looked at the pads and visually said there looks to be about 75% life left.
Just wondering if everything is good, should I use the old addage "if it aint broke dont fix it" ???
Its $124 cdn, to get them to adjust them and lube them up ... I'm leaning to just opt out of it. What do you think

Its a "Honda wants money" scam. They'll stick their head up there and charge you a ton of money if nothing is wrong. There's wear indicators in the front pads, and when the drums go, you'll know it.
I've never taken my car in for a single "honda maintanance interval" and my car probably runs better than if it did. I hate them ****ing around with and adjusting things that aren't broken.
If you had someone look at it and tell you you have lots of pad left, save the money, or spend it on beer.
At 36000 miles (whats that like 58K km?) get the fluid flushed. By 50000 miles you may need pads. Between 60 and 70 you'll probably need shoes.

60-70 on the shoes if you drive like Boilermaker1. Mr Autocross
You or your friend who is a mechanic will be able to do the brake maintenance yourself. It won't take more than 1h total since I believe you got 4 wheel disc brakes. It just ensures that the sliders on the calipers are lubricated so the pads wear evenly. A tube of silicone brake grease is about $8 and will probably last you the life of your car. $124 may seem to be a lot but it isn't cheap to run a shop, pay wages, and all those cursed environmental taxes that come with running a shop in Canada.

because its like 5 bux more to have them do it. personally i always do my own but if i could get to a dealer as easily as i could get to an auto zone i would pay to have them get dirty and trash the oil.
