tire help (fast!!) i have to go to school

my problem is.. yesterday i had no problem with my tire, until right before i pulled into my development.. i sped up a little and all of a sudden my front left tire started making this sound like it was hitting up againt something.. like the plastic guard came lose and my tire was hitting it.. I checked it out.. but nothing seemed to be out of place or causing this noise.. so today i wake up and go to school.. everything seems fine at first.. then all of a sudden the noise comes back.. then goes away... then comes back.. so i pull over about 3 times and look at it.. nothing looks out of place.. This noise only happens when i go over around 45mph.. im thinking maybe a belt in the tire is broken or something? Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is... Furthermore, is it safe to use aftermarket lug nuts on the spare? thanks everyone

No, not the spare. If your lugs are loose, they'll rattle when you get up to about the speed you were talking about. Make sure they're all tight.

You should check your suspension. Maybe something is loose. Take your wheel off.

took on the test drive.. at about 44 there was no noise.. then at 45 the noise came back! so it wasn't the lug nuts.. however i figured out that it was the plastic guard behind parallel to the wheel.. so i took that off and now it doesn't make a sound anymore.. the piece looked like it was secure when i checked it out, I guess when i got ot 45 the wind would blow it out and it would hit my tire.. Is there anything wrong with taking off the plastic pieces besdies getting dirt where they are? On my passenger side and underneath my car i have non of the plastic stuff at all.. they all fell off due to them draggin on the ground.
