For best performance get a 15X7... but then I autocross heavlily. for street use... Get what ever you want, though a 205/50-15 isnt exactly the best tire size for street use. Being that its over 5% shorter then stock = worse gas milage and you'll rack up miles quicker.

Yeah, like Zzyzx siad, different sizes for different rims. If you are going to after maket, get 7" wide rims. So he stock tire diameter for a '03 Civic coupe EX (mine) is 24.5" so you want a tire with the same diameter. So for a 15" you want a 205/60 15 or a 205/55 15 and a 16" rim you want a 205/50 16 or 205/55 16. Each tire is made a little different, so even though two different tires say the same size, they may actually have different diameters (may vary by 0.5")

195/60 15 Before I give you advise on what brand I have to ask a few questions.

1. do you live in a area that gets snow? if so are these summer tires, or do you use them all year around. If you do get snow and want good tires, like me, I would get a set of 15" steeles for winter.

2. how much do you want to spend?

3. long do you want the tires to last, in miles?

i know that the stock tires from the factory suck. so is using the same size tire the only AND BETTER option...if i change tire size to 205/55or60/15?? what are the pros and cons??

NO SNOW.
ALL YEAR AROUND USE.
COST DOESNT MATTER.
WANT THE TIRES TO LAST LONG AS POSSIBLE.

Personally For a street driven 15" I'd be looking at a 195/60-15 a 205/60-15 or a 215/55-15 as all of these are with in 1% of the stock diamiter. And just to note, wider is better.

If wider is better, why not go with a 205 instead of a 195?

I think it is the best option, but it may not be the most showy option if you want looks. But for cost concers it is by far the best option, I would much rather have the stock rims with some rela nice tires rather than some flashy rims with no name junk tires because I couldn't afford good tires. Not to mention the price difference between say a 15" tire and 17" tire is huge.. Plus the stock rim is forged so it handle a little curb hit or pot hole better than an alloy rim. So yeah I like the potion of stock rim with high end tires, but that's just me.

So some options (the tread number after the brand is tread life, the higher the number the longer it take to ware the tread down and some prices off tirerack.com):

195/60 15
YokohamaAVS ES100, tread 280
Dunlop SP Sport 4000, tread 340

205/60 15
BF Goodrich g-force sport, tread 340 ($65)
Dunlop SP Sport 5000, tread 340 ($75)
YokohamaAVS ES100, tread 280 ($79)

205/55 15
BF Goodrich g-force KDW-2, tread 300 ($108)

I choose the BF g-force KDW-2. They are a hair smaller, diameter is 24.1, stock is 24.5, so there is a 0.4 inch difference, that is very little difference and really, won't effect much. Those where my favortie on the list above. I've had the Dunlop 5000's also and they aren't bad, but I like the KDW-2's better, but the Dunlop's lasted longer.

My suggestion is to read the review of these tires on Tirerack.com, look for things like wet traction if you get much rain. Look at some other brands too, I have always liked Falkens, but they wore a little quicker than the Dunlop and KDW-2.

i live in so. cali and right now its raining on and off...but i would like a tire for both wet and dry traction...your right though jrfish007 about the look of the tires...i plan to just use my stock 04 ex wheels and just get some tires that look good with my car...rims do look real clean but its not an option something that i need right now...anyways...i was looking towards the KDW-2 and might go in that direction...would the falkens do better then the KDW-2??? whats the tread life on the falkens???

FALKENS OR KDW-2....HMMMMM

very well said jrfish007... thanks

Well... In my experience, the falken are better tires all around in wet and dry, but only last about 20K miles. My KDW-2 lasted about 30K miles, but didn't have quite the same traction, so it's really up to you and what you want and how often you wnat to replace your tires. I would go with the KDW-2's becasue the lost traction I had wasn't that much compared to the life. You may want to check out the GF Goodrich KD's also, they are just like the KDW-2's but with out the mud and snow rating, I wanted those, but the place I went to had the KDW-2's in stock, so I took those instead of wating almost 3 weeks for the backorder to fill. On BF Goodrich's site they give the KD a tread ware rating of 6 and the KDW-2 a rating of 7, but I have no idea how many miles that translates to, but it means it won't last quite as long. If I where in you shoes, I would look at how much it rain and heavy it rains, and debate between the KDW-2's and the KD's. Maybe find someone that has run the KD's and compare them to the falkens for life? If the KD's only last 20K, then go with the Falkens. Just IMO.
