drum adjustment question...

I just ajust the drums on my coupe because
my brake pedal was to low (to much travel)
and I want someone to confirm that there
is suppose to be a light drag when I turn
the wheels by hand, about 2 or 3 rotation
before it stop moving (when the car is jacked).

Thanks for input, I read the DIY but I want
to be shure. By the way, now the pedal feel
like when the car was new, FIRM.

Philippe.

OK,

firsr, I loose the cable on the e-brake,
after I jacked the rear of the car and
remove both wheels... I than removed
both drums... I adjusted the star nut
between the springs to expand the shoes...
after, I replace both drums and 2 lug nuts
on each side to be shure that the drums
are correctly placed... I pull on the e-brake
handle a couple of time to seat the shoes...
I spin each drum to chek the adjustment...
and I repeat each steps above to obtain the
correct brake ''drag'' , about 2 rotations of
the wheels (spinning by hand)

I hope that you can understand, I don't realy speak english,

Philippe

Yeah why do you loosen the parking brake cables ...you dont need to do that to adjust the drums...And usually behind the drum there is a small rubber cap that you pry off and put in a flat head screwdriver and adjust them from there...
Is there a small rubber cap in behind the drum????

for the e-brake, I loose the cable because
mine was adjust to engage (spell??) on the
3 first clicks. So whit the drums more tight,
the e-brake would have be badly adjust.
because when you tight the drums, you
also adjust the e-brake lever travel...

The parking brake cable is supposed to be pulled one click, then adjusted to the point where the wheel drags slightly.

When off, the drum is not supposed to drag at all. The adjuster should not be turned manually, it will adjust itself when you drive backwards and stop.

ok...

I readjusted the drums so they don't drag at all
and w/ the e-brake that engage on the second
click... Now, the brakes feel even better with
about the same pedal travel... I also rebleed the
system... I was going to do a rear discs swap but
I think that w/ these adjustments, the brakes are
perfect.

Thanks for input,

Philippe.
