With the upcomming change in weather, and after a lot of spinning on stock Firestone FR690's, I've finally decided it's time to buy snow tires.
You'd be suprised at how little information is available on the net regarding the snow tires. After a little research (based on info like this ), here is what I've decided on:
2004 Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi
First, check your local laws if studding is allowed in your area:
USA
Canada
If studs were an option I would have gone with a studded tire because they perform better on ice. However , I chose a non-studded contact type tire because studs are banned in my city.
After a lot of verbal "face to face" discussions with more than a few tire dealers in my area, the general feeling I get from all of them is that they all claim that the new RSi is a hands down a top performer in it's class, and one of the best sellers for the winter of 2004. If you think there are better tires out there on the market, feel free to contribute and:
Post a better tire if it exists.
