Tire and Wheel Questions

I am looking to lower my car and put new tires and wheels on it. Right now everything is stock.

My tire size is P185/65R15.

What do the numbers mean?

I want a balance of performance and looks. I do not want the tires to be pretruding out of the side of the car, I dont want them to be too much wider than stock As such, I would prolly not want to go bigger than 16 inches X 6.5/7, would this be adequate? Will it make a noticable difference with 16 inch or should I go bigger. The thing is I dont want the wheels to be too overwhelming for the car. Civics are small call are I am looking for the style of wheels to flow with the car. I am looking for smaller spoked types.

What size tire would I be looking for then?

What does offset mean, and would I have to specificy the offset for my car when I go to the shop, or is that ingerent in the tire I buy?

What colour of wheels would you guys recommend for a beige sedan? I am thinking of gunmetal.

I want to change the tires and wheels in spring of 2005. Are there any issues I should be aware of if I go ahead with a drop of 1.3 to 1.5 inches. I would hate to have a problem when I put the wheels on.

Would love to get your input on my questions. Thanks guys.
