Can severely warped rotors cause wheel shake?
I have warped front rotors and have a mild wheel shake at above 62mph. The thing is I did not notice it with my steelies on however I do feel it with the 18s on. A mechanic told me that because the wheel is larger diameter I notice it more than with the 15 inch wheel? I looked at the sticky above but did not see this covered? Anyone had this happen? Thanks

It's possible that your rotors are warped. Also, there's a chance that your rims could be warped/bent or the could be out of balance. It'd be cheaper to get your wheels rebalanced first.
1. This is after wheel change.
2. Noticed at high speed, not when braking.
Centering rings or wheel balancing, not warped rotors.
And yeah, it's been beaten to death.

your wheel would shake because of warped rotors when you brake not during regular movment, i mean if there is no contact with the actually rotor (ie when the pad touches the rotor) there is no friction on the uneven surfaces of the rotor or contact for that matter so i suggest you get an alignment and/or wheel balancing.
Yes, it's an Acura EL

Well, anytime you jack up your car and mess with rims or suspension you're probably changing your alignment the tiniest bit - just not enough to warrant an alignment job every time. Do you have hubcentric rings for your rims? If not I suggest the same as Sickboy - investing the $10 in them. Most people who feel vibrations above 100 kmh (60+ mph I think, my math is bad) need hubcentrics.

To the other post about alignments its IMPOSSIBLE for an alignment to directly cause a vibration. Vibrations are caused from rotating parts, never seen an Alignment rotate
And jacking the wheels up off the ground WONT effect the alignment unless there are SEVERLY worn front end parts. And i mean SEVERE to the point that it was unsafe to drive 5 years ago. As for the rotors being severly warped to cause a vibration this too would have to be so SEVERE that when you used your brakes the car was falling apart from the pulsations

There are so many of you are spitting bad info. Hondaluver is right. Make sure you get laser balanced. The stupid firestone dudes or the like that place the weights by hand and don't know the exact amount SUCK!

Yeah that thing. They are all computerized. They spin the wheel like those crappy ones but they have a special arm that the guy doing it uses to EXACTLY place the EXACT amount needed to balance the rim/tire. It should show him on the screen where the weight should go. The other ones, the guy just sticks the weight in the back, where it may or may not go.
