I know people always say that buying 17's, 18's, or even 19's can mess up the gas mileage but how much does it really mess it up?, how many miles per gallon do u lose by adding rims and lowering the car?

Depends on how much stop and go driving you do. If you go with a larger/heavier wheel the more power that is needed/wasted getting that additional weight to accelerate, so more Gas is used. For freeway driving, there wouldnt be that much of a difference.

I dont believe lowering the suspension would cause any parasitic loss in fuel economy and may perhaps improve it. The less ground clearance you have reduces the aerodynamic lift from under your car. However a larger diameter wheel will decrease your fuel economy because of the greater force needed to turn the wheel. If indeed you are looking for something like 18's or 19's, I suggest you get lightweight wheels if you are concerned about milage per gallon of gas.

Remember, no three of the following apply to any wheel, but only two:

Lightweight, Strong, Cheap

You can have a strong lightweight wheel but its gonna cost you an arm and a leg (forged wheels). You can have a cheap lightweight wheel but it probably wont be good for track use/hard driving/long-term reliability. You can have a cheap strong wheel (cast) but you sacrifice accleration and fuel economy.

exactly in town it kills me a lot with my 17" but on the highway it doesnt affect it at all it seems like , in otwn its a difference of like 50 miles so ill get like 260 or 270 out of 10 gallons or so but the highway i think i went like 170 and had half a tank left

i noticed a diff. with my new tire, stock 185/70/14 to 205/55/15........about 50miles on 10 gallons

before 310miles/10gallons
now 260miles/10 gallons...... i think i goin change back to stock spec.....

Lowering ur car does affect gas mileage cuz of alignment. Once u lower ur car u cant go back to stock specs. So no matter what ur car is gonna have a bit toe in toe out which causes resistance makin the enigine push harder than stock height.

It really depends on the size and weight of the rims. I don't know if lowering will decrease your mpg, but any is possible.
