I'm gonna need new brakes soon. . Front and back. . I'm upgrading the front, just thought that while I was at it, I'd upgrade the back too. I figured drums and shoes would be cheaper than doing disc conversion..

Thats disputible as the Si and Ex have the same 60-0 braking distances (approx, within 5-10 Ft)
The big advantage of Disc over drum on the back is better thermal properties. as in Discs stay cooler longer and when they do over heat they recover quicker. So I have to ask, are you overheating your brakes (Brake fade???) if not, then drums are fine. Me, I pound the crap out of my brakes when I do Mt. runs, and so far no fade to be detected. And I've tried. Damn I love my Porterfields

The porterfields will have a Higher initial bite, so they would probably be better. as far as the ABS Vs no ABS..... pro: stops you from flat spotting your tires. Con. lowers your threashold braking ability.....
If you are good at threashold braking (Braking to the point where any more pressure would lock the tires) then running with out ABS would probably be best. If you arent, then running with ABS untill you are will save you $$$ in new tires
Try to get your braking to the point that you can brake hard enough to stop but just under the ABS kick in point. also, if you are hitting the ABS on evey corner, then you may be pouncing on the brakes to fast, or to late. Smoothness is the key for engaging and disengaging the brakes, but being smooth doenst mean being slow.

bobbyd has a point. But its not about quality. Brakes are a wear part just like Tires. and also just like tires the best ones (the ones with the higher friction levels) will wear quicker. So They may not last as long as other pads but they perform Much better. If you want pads to last a long time go pick up some Life time warrenty ones a Pepboys.
Just like my race tires (Falken Azenis) they may only last 10-15,000 miles but they Grip a whole hell of a lot better then my All seasons that will last 30,000+
Get the point?
