LOUD scratchy sound by wheel...

ok..i backed out of my garage today like a normal day but i noticed this ungodly loud scratchy sound coming from the right side front tire...its horrible...i thought it was jsut from backin up and it would go away...but when i start to drive down the road it still scratches really bad...but when im drivin then i brake..it will stop but once i let off the brake it starts back up..but if im goin over 60 and i brake it just continues to make the scratchy noise...anyone know whats goin on? its so loud peopel can hear it from like 50 yards away and look at me...

Could be your brake pads or rotor, how many miles do you have on your car? What year?

JCiv03 is on a distinguished road
uhh i dont think the brake pads would be under warranty, this is considered to be normal wear, and not a defect.

18k miles and you need new pads??? that cant be normal wear, unless youve done something to them... you should get at least 30k on new pads...

As your brakes wear they can wear uneven because of faulty caliper or hardware. So when you apply the brake the squeel indicator doesn't touch the rotor. and as you let off the brakes they release to a some what normal posistion and rub. I always suggest replacing/rebuilding brake calipers when doing front brakes specially if this type of issue is occuring.

I experienced a VERY loud screeching from the front rotor on a '94 accord several years ago...
It was caused by gravel from the road getting stuck behind the dust shield on the caliper ***'y
It might be worth a look...I just flexed it by hand to allow the gravel to drop out. This happened 2 or 3 times while I owned it. Hope this helps!!

Typicaly gravel in the dust shield is a constant noise brakes applied or not. But its worth a shot to try anyway.

Good idea but it wouldnt be the dust shield cause you have 2 constants the rotor and shield. Neither change physicaly to cause a change that hes describing. Dust shield would be a constant noise unless the wheel bearing was so worn out that the car wouldnt be driveable.
