I haven't heard of people losing tires with 18's, not unless they had absolutely no pressure in the tire. As long as you keep them full of air you shouldn't have a problem. As far as rims, if you are going for show, get the 18's, for go get 16's. 17's are right in the middle but have slowed me down just enough so that I am running the same times as I did before I had my intake and exhaust. I have Nankang tires, made by Yokohama, that came with my wheels from wheelmax. Both traction ratings are A and they grip damn well.

Since you're a newbie here I'll be nice.

You'll get a lot more answers to your question if you ask in the Wheels, tires, and brakes forum

Good luck. Welcome to the site.

I had 215/35-18 tires on 18" rims on my 7th gen and I drove 16 miles with absolutley no air in the tires (the wheel had a hole in it) and I never had the bead come off the wheel.

If you run a low PSI then yes I can see this happening, not having enough air in your tire to keep the bead seated.
