Rep Power: 276 duplicolor quality wheel paint?
i plan on fixing and painting my rims over the winter. i will be using the 2 DIYs from 2 members on this site. i forgot their names sorry. DIY wheel painting and DIY curb damage fix. so this is a 2 part thread.
1)changing my white 17's to gunmetal. i seen duplicolor has products for painting wheels. so i plan to use their graphite paint and their clear coar. woud u guys reccomend this brand of paint? any experience with it?
2) need to fix the curb damage my sister did to the wheels. my wheels have a polished lip. so after i fix the curb damage can i just use the duplicolor silver wheel paint? what about the chrome spray paint?will it shineor be dull?
Thanks to all that respond

Rep Power: 399 I had aweful results with dupli-**** wheel paint. It lasted about 12 hrs. and I never got them back on the car before they started chipping and peeling. However, other people have had good results.
You're not going to get silver paint to look like polish. Your best bet is a dremel and polish it, or take the wheels and get them powdercoated and re-polish the lips.... this is what I would do.

Rep Power: 0 .........or just get the rims powdercoated gunmetal gray, that will be more durable than spraying them with spray paint, and will look a hell of a lot better too.

Rep Power: 399 I can't give you an estimate. It varies by shop, color and how much fixing they need to do before they can coat and polish. I would guess to say about $75 a wheel since its a 3 step process. I don't know what the rims were new, but it may be more worth it to just get a new one, or a new set.

Rep Power: 399 I'm not saying its bad stuff... I'm just saying I didn't have much luck. Theres too many variables when you DIY it, humidity, dirt/dust, any water left on the wheel, etc...
If you're a perfectionist... you may not be happy with it. The darker colors will show mess ups more than light ones. Keep that in mind too.

Rep Power: 303 i would stay away from duplicolor wheel paint. everyone i know has had bad results with it. as far as pricing goes, i know i was quoted $120 per wheel for powdercoating motorcycle wheels, and an additional $75 to polish the part of the wheel i wanted polished. i know it sounds funny, but the thing i was wanting to do was sweet with the powdercoat and polish combination. that could give you a rough price to start at. you could in fact fix these yourself, but like i said, everyone i know has had bad results with duplicolor wheel paint. it lasted a month in the best case. and then started chipping, cracking, peeling, etc. you may have better results, but i'd make sure you did them in a controlled environment, and make sure you get everything perfect in each step. it may look good, and you may like it. i just wouldn't refer anyone to duplicolor DIY painting.

Rep Power: 0 being in a controlled environment, away from humidity, dust, etc, and using proper technique is important for any paint project. wheels aren't any different.
