Wheel Strength?

Does spoke thickness have anything to do with wheel strength? I just read over on some forum where some guy said that Rotas crack easily. I'm planning on getting a set of Rota Group N's. Would these thin spokes be prone to breaking? I don't want my wheel to crack if I hit a bump or pothole at high speed.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I got that pic from an eBay auction. The wheels are called "Group N." Do a search for "Rota Group" and you'll find them.
The Group N's aren't listed on Rotas website.

those rotas are not the strongest....there was a pic on here a while back where
a WRX completly broke the spokes off the hub. Those are rota group n's and are usually aroun 400 bones shipped...
here is one site, but there are cheaper ones.

Crap. Wtf. I was about to get some. Like, literally, about to get some. How do they break? Like if you hit a pothole or what?

****! What about Konig Heliums? Do they break easily?
What is it about the Rotas that breaks? Is it the thin spokes? Are they made out of crappy material?

It was the attacks that broke, not the group N's, and the guy was running Vicroracers (Really sticky tires) on a Heavy car (WRX). and Rota has since Reinforced all of their Attacks. (And Replaced all of the Frist generation Attacks) the group Ns should be fine, but they are not the lightest wheel Rota makes, the Slipstream is.

Doesn't rota gauruntee their rims....even under race conditions? I've read where people have
broke one rima nd they get 4 new ones....mostly subaru racers....I wish I could find that pic of the broken rim.

Group N's are not the lightest, but they're the only ones I can get for $350 for 4.
kjg, does rota guarantee them even if I don't buy them from the store?

They're road wheels. Maybe someone like kaizer or Kodiak who make true race wheels will warranty them on the track, but yeah... the Rota Attacks had some serious issues. The would fracture under sideways loading (hard cornering).
BTW... I don't have the pic, but I have seen it posted on here before.
Usually thin spoked wheels with large centers mean trouble. BBS RKs are terrible about cracking spokes. Those are probably ok in 15" since there isn't much spoke to begin with. The worry really comes about when you start getting to larger wheels and longer spokes.

Should I be worried?

That would be these

^^^^^ are the RKIIs... but they're just as bad. Lots of material in the center, then thin spokes. The spokes aren't always strong enough when you put big diameter wheels on a heavy car, then beat it around corners. It tends to crack the spokes.

Thanks for your input Boilermaker1.
In the event that I was driving and I did manage to crack one, would I lose control of the car? What happens, besides me getting really pissed off?

Wow they are copies of RNR's!
I think the spokes look much thinner on the BBSs. Do you agree?

Basically any rim worth coping isn't a copy of something else. Thats why its the Original.
