do aftermarket rotors warp? ... do they ever need resurfacing?

You can warp any rotor if you ride them like a grandma. And yes you have to re-surface them (although its probably just as expensive as buying another new set). They're just like any other rotor.

hm, someone had told me that they never need resurfacing and don't warp ...

um, if you rode them slowly, wouldn't that mean that they -wouldn't- warp?? ... I would think that hard braking would warp them

They can warp like others. Re-surfacing is pretty cheap last time I checked. Usually less then 20 bucks a rotor at most places.

What your going to get out of aftermarket rotors is.
1. Better build quality=Less prone to Warping and Cracking due to better meterials used.
2. Depending on construction, better Heat dessipation for better Resistance to break fade.
3. More options such as Cross drilled or Slotted which may give better performance vs break fade at the cost of Duribility.

Anyone have problems putting aftermarket rotors on yourself? I have some and I was goign to do it one day but I had a hell of a time getting the OEM ones off. I called the dealership to see if I was doing it right and they said I shouldn't attempt it. They went on to say there was a special tool they used to pack something or i don't know...

it sounded like they just wanted to do it themselves and charge me so I just never messed with it. After a year of these Brembo rotors sitting in my closet I think I should try putting them on again...

Looking for opinions from people who have done this themselves (rather than taking it in to a shop)

depending on how you drive, any rotor will warp/crack/need resurfacing.

like Zzyzx said, aftermarket rotors tend to have advantages over stock.

i'm personally running powerslot rotors and i love them. i've tried kvr cross drilled, and found the stopping powere and brake fade a bit better than oem. but i found the powerslots to to have less brake fade and harder stops.

hope this helps

I'm not sure how hard or easy it is to resurface aftermarket slotted/dimpled/x-drilled rotors. I'm sure it wouldn't be *that* hard though.

I can attest to aftermarket rotors and brakes being better than stock. I recently upgraded to the ProStop rotors (slotted and dimpled) with a set of EBC Greenstuff pads, and I am amazed. It's probably been the best upgrade I've done on my car thus far. I can actually stop for one thing. Last night, I was goofing off on a slow street, and stomped on my brakes and the car came to a stop like it was nothing. I was amazed that I was even able to lock up the wheels with ABS! imp:
