Best looking tire size?
i just got 17" Velox VX-8's, which are 7.5" wide.
i was wondering. i'm dropped on neuspeed race springs. and what do u guys think what tire size fitted with the 17" & 7.5" wide vx-8's would look best?
i was originally going to go with 205/40/17. but now that i see other ppl's cars/wheels. i'm sorta thinkin twice about it.
i've done a search several times on this. but what really looks good, dropped on neuspeed race springs. i'd really like to get rid of wheel gap, and i hav a feeling that if i get 205/40/17, i'm just gonna want to sell my neuspeeds and get like ground control coilovers to get rid of the wheel gap. anyway, whats ur guys' opinions?
205/40/17
215/40/17
215/45/17 ?
alright, thanx!

215/45/17
Some guy in my apt. complex has a 2000 Si, on 17s with 205/40s, all 4 rims are smashed. There is seriously no cushion on them.

hm. yeah.. i definitely dont want to bend up the rims.
215/40/17 is cool with me. but im' wondering waht 215/45/17 looks like.
attached is a picture of a civic that has neuspeed race springs and 17" wheels, just like me. what tire size is that? is it 215/45? if they are, doesnt' look too bad to me and i might as well go for those.
oh by the way, thats a pic of yourinmyw0rld's car. lol, sorry if it bothers u for usin ur pic, but i remembered u had a similar setup to me.

If you use the Tire Calculator along with the specs of the tire that you are considering, you can find out a few things that might help you make your decision.
The 205/40-17 has only 3.23 inches of sidewall between your new rim & the road.
Going to a 215/40-17 only gives you a whopping 0.16 extra inches of protection/gap filler (3.39" sidewall)
To really make much difference lookswise & protectionwise, you would need to go with the 215/45-17 (3.82" sidewall). But you DO have to be careful about the offset on those wheels - I don't know what the minimum number is for a 7.5" wheel where a 215/45-17 tire won't rub. Do you have the offset of your new wheels?
You have one other choice that is less likely to rub, but still gives you a sidewall with some protection & looks (it has a 3.62" sidewall): 205/45-17 The selection of tires to choose from is a lot smaller, but you can still get Yokohama AVS ES100, Yoko Parada Spec2, Kumho
(just one more choice you might want to think about

) Anything but 205/40 will look good. Looks like a black rubber band wrapped around the wheel. Something cool I'm going to do after my current tires wear out is put 225/40/17's on the rear and 215/40/17's on the front.. give it a very suttle sporty look.

thats strange. i'm pretty sure they are 7.5". everywhere i look, everyone lists them at a 7.5" width.
actually, i just checked the velox website www.veloxperformance.com . even they list the vx-8's as 7.5" width.

hmmm, maybe they are 17x7.5. i could have swore they were 17x7. and yes, they are velox not ripoffs.
edit-just checked the site i bought them from, and they are 7.5. im an idiot. hmm, maybe i should have gotten a wider tire? oh well.

haha thanks, i got 205/45/17, but im thinking now i should have got 215/40/17 cause if u look at them (and i started a post but noone answered yet) there is a slight lip where the tire bulges out just above the rim. it has always bothered me, but i was wondering if it was good or not.
215/45/17... i got kumho 711's ... yeah i'm outa date o well...they work just fine... i roll on velox vx nova's 17x7.5 and the tires wrap fine around the rims... I love em! gonna upgrade to yokohama's when the kumho's wear out.
anyone use 205/55/16's? I have 205/50/16 on an 02 coupe now... and wonder if I can get a better (i.e. bit softer) ride? or at least more grip on the road... sorry don't mean to hijack the kumho discussion... but..
hmmm, I just bought some Nakayama 6speed 17s. I got 215/45 Yokahama es100s. the tire looks a little bigger than i am used to seeing, BUT the ride is smooth. I am taking sharp turns and trying to chirp the tires when shifting to 2nd, but those tires are too sticky.
