ES with all-round discs, standard!
Hi all
In Malaysia, the Civic just received its mid-life facelift. Beside the customary cosmetic changes, the ES was also equipped with solid rear disc brakes as standard item. It also has front and rear anti-roll bars, strengthened chassis and updated suspension for better handling. However, the engine remained the same.

Click on the sedan Civic photo and you'll see the review.
Enjoy.

Like you, I was cursing my head off two days ago when it was launched. I bought my VTi-S in June 02 at on the road price of RM 119K. This new one offers so much more for 10K less. Grrrrrrr!!
The reason you see 'a lot' of money is because the Malaysian currency, called Ringgit (RM=Ringgit Malaysia), is pegged at about RM 3.80 per 1.00 USD. This was done in 97 following the global economic crisis to prevent the meltdown of the economy.
Anyway, 119000/3.8= 31315 USD. Still a lot because 30-40% of it is government tax! And this is for CKD(completely knocked down) cars which are assembled in Malaysia and has about 70% local contents.
A CBU(complete built unit) or fully imported cars are taxed anywhere between 150 to 300% of the car price, depending on whether you buy a BMW or Maybach. For the sake of comparison, a brand new CBU, JDM Integra type R, DC5R, costs about RM 220K, through a grey importer! And there's no warranty or service back-up. You're on your own.
So, you guys in US are very very lucky. Cars are dirt cheap. But as consolation, we do get the real deal DC5R- at a price. We also get Mitsi Evo VIII with 6-speed box, instead of the old 5cog, at RM 260K.

Honda won't even put ABS on the DX, HX, LX Civics so there's no chance for disc brakes before ABS. Maybe for an EX which would actually set it further apart from the others better. At least I would like that.

The rear lights are nice- www.honda.net.my
It also has electrically foldable side mirrors.
On the inside, dash has 3dials like hybrid, instead of four.
Price goes down, specs go up...., Honda is desperate for sale! It can't bear being second to Toyota Altis. And with Nissan Sentra and Ford Mondeo breathing down its neck, it is bound to happen sooner or later. Those with the pre-facelift Civic, like I, are cursing like hell!
