Charging Delay After Startup (2007 Civic Hybrid)
Charging Delay After Startup (2007 Civic Hybrid)
I recently bought a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. It's been great so far and I have no complaints, but I've noticed that there's no charging of the battery indicated after I start the car. Assist works, no warning lights. The battery just doesn't charge for roughly 2-3 minutes, then kicks in and works like normal.
Is this normal or something I should be concerned about?
Thanks for the help.

The hybrid battery. For the first two or three minutes the IMA charge gauge doesn't register any charging, but assist still works. Again there are no warning lights.
I notice this mainly in the morning when I start the car for the first time, but it's also happened a few times after I've driven the car throughout the day.

Perhaps the battery is already full?

"The battery level gauge does notread the battery level directly. Itcalculates the level by continuouslymeasuring the current flow, voltage, and temperature.
Since the level is not read directly, small sensing errors can, over time, cause the gauge to read higher thanthe actual battery level. The systemwill then perform a correction, andthe battery level gauge reading willdrop suddenly. When this happens,IMA assist and Auto Idle Stop aredisabled until the IMA battery issufficiently recharged by normaldriving. This should take only a few minutes
This correction of the battery levelgauge is normal and does notindicate a problem. If the IMAbattery develops a problem orbecomes deteriorated, the IMAsystem indicator will come on. If thishappens, have the vehicle checkedby your dealer as soon as possible."
