Aftermarket LED Steering Wheel install for 2018 Civic LX Hatchback
Hey everyone! My son purchased a new steering wheel that has LED lights and features wireless OBDII sensor data.... the issue is how to power it through the clock spring. We are having difficulty finding anyone who can provide instructions on how to do that in this car despite the company saying it was fully compatible. We've tried searching online, YouTube, used ChatGPT etc. and noone seems to know how to find the right clockspring wire to tap into to provide a small amount of power to the LED lights.
Grounding is easy to the wheel screw under the airbarg but it would be amazing if someone had another suggestion other than trying the horn power. That just leads to a bunch of noise when you hook up the battery. As he does have radio and cruise controls on his wheel, I was hoping someone had a suggestion so we could finish this off. We've had other suggestions of using fuse taps and running a dedicated power wire from the fuse panel but that has to come through the wheel and then there's a binding issue. This appears to be the best kept secret on the web because noone seems to have a workable solution through the clock spring thus far. Please, someone prove me wrong. : )
An update: I have found an after-market solution to this problem I think using an OBD LED Smart Box and Cable to essentially inject additional power into the horn circuit and then provide a harness on the inside to split it to the wheel and airbag... i've emailed OHC to see if this solution will work with a FlamingHawk wheel that isn't theirs.... it looks like it will because almost all the wheels on Amazon seem to utilize this method in their kits.... hmmm. thought there might be an easier way but apparently not.
Thanks sincerely for any advice you can provide!

Thanks so much for the reply.... I've been kind of holding off ordering the OBD LED Smart Box and Cables from OHC Motors as it's going to cost probably close to $350 to get it here. Another option such as replacing the clock spring and tapping into a different wire would be amazing! Thanks for checking into it for me!
