2012 Civic SI A/C not blowing cold air
Hello all
I have a 2012 Civic Si and while driving on the highway my A/C went from blowing cold air to warm air. Copied from another thread but here are my findings.
No cool air
AC clutch does not engage
AC clutch moves freely
Both fans run when AC is "on"
Fuses are good
Relay is good
Max AC and AC lights come on when pressed
Took it to Honda Dealership where they stated that the compressor is getting power and they recommended having it changed for $1800.
My questions to this are:
1. If the AC is getting power to it but the clutch is not engaging that most likely means that either the clutch or thermal protector is out correct? I should be able to test this just by seeing if the clutch engages if i run a wire from the battery straight to the positive lead on the clutch correct?
2. If it is the clutch/coil do you have any recommendations on where I can find them or if they are compatible with any other clutch/coil? I see that the A/C and its components are only available on 2012-2015 Si models. That clutch kits I see on Amazon state they only are for 1.8l engines.I assume that because the clutches and coils also have different part numbers that I can't just grab one of a non-si civic.
If I can confirm that it is a clutch engaging issue my thought is ordering a clutch and coil from Honda will cost around $300 however my local auto shop (Autozone) have a brand new 4 seasons compressors for $225. I was thinking on possibly removing the clutch and coil off of that and hoping it would mate to the original Honda compressor.
Or would you recommend that since I have the compressor go get the car evacuated and changing it myself?
Thanks all!

Re: 2012 Civic SI A/C not blowing cold air
Before you do anything, does the A/C work again once the car has cooled down for a few hours? Slipping compressor clutch can trip the thermal protection. Once it cools down it will start working again. Easily fixed by adjusting clutch gap.

I left the AC alone and tried it the next day however no signs of the clutch engaging.
Re: 2012 Civic SI A/C not blowing cold air
I appreciate the recommendation. I spent the weekend under the car and when testing the resistance of the a/c coil I got nothing. In a attempt to take off the a/c clutch and pulley I broke the bearing that was on the shaft plus it looks like it was leaking from the shaft anyways. That means time for a new a/c.
Probably a reason they don't make replacement kits for this ac. It was a pain to get to. Do not recommend at all.
