2006 Honda Civic AC Pressure Switch [solved]

Do I need to evacuate the refrigerant in order to change out the AC pressure switch - or is there a Schrader valve below that'll stop the refrigerant from leaking?

I can't find anything solid in the service manual or online so I can't say. There isn't one on older Civic's but the sensor location is different. Are you sure the sensor is bad?

Not sure.

Originally the AC Condenser fan was dead - replaced that but AC clutch still did not engage. I tested it and noticed that the Clutch Coil was out, so I replaced it as well.

Now my AC Clutch engages, and the AC works for 10 seconds before power to the system is shut off. I have to turn off my car and restart it to get the AC to work for another 10 seconds.

What's funny is that before replacing the fan and the clutch, when pressing the AC button, power would get sent to the system for 10 seconds and shut off automatically.

I'm really confused.

Have you been able to check the pressure in the system? If it's low enough it could initially start and then kick out.

Nope, I'm trying to figure out if I should invest in a manifold gauge set, take a blind shot and replace the pressure switch or just take it to the professionals.

Last year I had the freon removed / refilled because I preferred removing the Compressor in order to get at the AC Clutch replacement. While at the mechanics, we noted that there was no leaks (through the weight of freon removed from the system)

The last thing I want to hear is that there is an issue with the ECM....

Thanks for your interest. If you have any advice, I'm all ears!

A parts store may have a rental gauge set you can use, you'd have to ask though. There are cheap gauge sets available, obviously they're cheap for a reason though so don't expect too much. You may even be able to use one of those R134 recharge bottles with a built in gauge just to read the pressure though I wouldn't recommend.

I bought manifold gauges off Amazon for around $100 and they work pretty well

Yes, on 8th Generation Honda Civics the refrigerant needs to be evacuated prior to replacing the AC Pressure Switch. The valve is directly in contact with refrigerant and the cooling system, if you remove the valve without first evacuating the system, then refrigerant will leak. There is no Schrader valve or anything else that will stop the refrigerant from leaking. Again, removing the valve will open the system and let out refrigerant.

re: 2006 Honda Civic AC Pressure Switch [solved]

Are there one or two AC Pressure switches on the 8th Gen Civic? I found the one on the high pressure line and tested it for continuity and there is none. I have a 2007 Coupe EX and I'm trying to diagnose a compressor that won't engage the clutch. I already tested the relay, fuse and they are good. There also seems to be pressure in the lines. Thanks
