Honda Civic 2006 hybrid won't shift out of park after driving when it's hot [solved]

As I said in the title, when it gets too hot, the car won't shift out of park. The first time starting it up for the day, there are no problems, and it'll run just fine until you turn the car off and turn it back on, which is when the problem starts. I've already put a screw driver in the release switch spot which does get it out of park, but then it won't accelerate practically at all. We had to push it up a hill last time we did it. If it sits with the hood popped for around an hour, it'll cool off enough to shift out of park and run again. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that the light on the dash that shows which gear the car is in does not turn on when it won't shift out of park, I'm not sure if that'll help or not.

Have you checked your trans fluid level/condition?

I have the same exact issue in the same model. Ever find a fix?

Hey, I did actually find the issue. Mine was the engine control computer that stopped working and would overheat. You should be able to get one online, but I had to get someone to program it for the car. Apparently this is a common fail point for the car. I'm glad my question could be of assistance a few years later!
