up to 15,000 miles
up to
up to
In the immortal words of Chuck D, "Don't believe the hype"

"Up to" includes 6000, and for that matter, it also includes zero.

Change the oil.
Oil is cheap.
Engine is not cheap.

What i find a little strange guys. is on my 8th Gen 2008 Honda Civic DX the Oil Cap clearly says to use 5w20 Oil. says it right on the Cap . in my owners manual it says to use it for Year round protection. So my Question is? why does Honda not carry a Genuine 5w20 Oil .??

How exactly did you discover this? Not sure why you would buy oil from a dealership?
My dealer keeps only a scant few quart bottles of Hondas labeled oil in stock, because we use bulk oil in the shop most of the time.

We have 5w20 in the US, I would assume dealers in Canada can get it too.
0w20 is also approved for that engine as well.

They Can get 5w20 but are they actually doing that ? and using it what im hearing is some shops / dealers are using a one grade bulk Oil right across the board for all there model vehicles. because they have no shelf room to stock up on all the different grades needed for each model vehicle. and yes im sure here in Canada Genuine 5w20 can be had to Honda dealers as You know honda dont make Oil they get it from a supplier. but according to this API look up chart honda dont carry 5w20 oil.?? If You click on the sae viscosity grades theres no honda 5w20 listed. ?

Re: Oil Change pre-requisites

api directory is in need of a update. i doubt a dealer would use anything other than what oil needs to go in, they have to use correct viscosity oil ,filter parts, etc..for waranty purposes.

Looks updated to me. does anyone else see that? rogerscivic you would be surprised how much of this is actually going on...

not all dealers do the right thing. some only care about the vehicle getting over the warranty period after all.
"WHO WOULD DOUBT THE DEALER." right? lol

I dont use Honda Oil and wont i will stick to my 5w20 SN rated Pennz Plat Synthetic.

Your Learning... LOL
Heres why i Only use Pennzoil 5w20 Platinum Pure Plus, sometimes Ultra if its on Sale Price. anyway not Only is 5w20 Pennzoil Platinum SN rated but it exceeds the normal (SN ) to (SN + Plus) wich is actually better than Just using a (SN rated Oil.) so. in

other words SN + is a better oil package, than the normal american petrolium istitute API SN rated Oil also it caries an
( ILSAC - GF5 ) - wording meaning its an Internationally recognized known Oil . wich in simpler terms put. is better than using Just an API North American Approved Oil alone. my secret is out lol. now You know why? i use Pennz Platinum. cheers!

I think Kendall makes Honda branded oil.

Amazon "makes" oil now. Soon you will be able to buy an Amazon branded car!!

lol . GolNat
Kendall ? did not see it listed. its posible that theres a 2nd or 3rd party thats taken over on all the packaging & filling of jugs and bottles by someone else named. that has not surfaced yet under some other alias name, we dont now about Yet.? i will say i have scoured online and theres only positive feedback on Pennzoil Platinum being used so..Brags." does make a good point on using Pennzoil Platinum oil in our 8th gen civics.

Re: Oil Change pre-requisites

Don't worry about API certification. API is the bottom of the barrel for specs.

Even basic Quaker Oats oil and Formula 1, meet API.

The specs to worry about are for turbo and high performance cars.

Examples
-ACEA A1/B1
-VW 207.00
-BMW LL04
-Mercedes 229.5

.........

There are also legal specs., basically just warranty specs that could be physically covered by other higher spec oils, but oil companies need to pay the dealerships for that stamp.

Yes i No... North American API Certification meets minimum Oil standards. its a joke. or bottom of the barrel as You call it. and well behind for example Europes ACEA standards. ACEA is a much better overall one compared to ours.
