Advice please: 2006 EX
Advice please: 2006 EX
Hi all,
New to the forum.
I recently got a great deal on a clean 2006 EX. 220,000 miles and rust-free (strange find in southwest MI)!
I bought it for my 16-year-old daughter.
My daughter and I did the following: New shocks/struts, calipers, pads, rotors all around. New tires and steel rims. Plugs and Coils, serpentine belt, tranny flush, oil change, filter etc.
Planning ahead:
Transmission: has a main bearing with a light squeal at acceleration.
Engine: Ok, but has 220,000 mile issues.
I can replace the engine and or transmission myself. But I cannot tear into the transmission and fix the innards. In other words, I can remove the tranny and install a used one, same for engine.
My thoughts: To have the transmission rebuilt is more than just putting a used one in myself. And if I was going to swap the transmission I might as well swap the engine as well. I am thinking of doing the work this summer. Tracking down an engine and tranny in the meantime.
That is if my daughter doesn't wreck it or if the main bearing holds out that long.
I could pay t to have the tranny rebuilt. But for the same money, (or less) I could put in a newer tranny and engine.
Any advice?

Re: Advice please: 2006 EX
get an engine after 2008, the early ones have the cracked block issue (most of them should have cracked by now, but an engine that have not run too long might have the issue)
I am assuming it is manual, it might just need the bearing
