2007 civic si coupe
My 2007 civic si is making a whining noise, sounds like it's supercharged when accelerating, i was told it might be low on power steering fluid, but it's and electrical steering system with no power steering reservoir. New to the Si and have no idea what it could be. Has anyone else had this issue? Or how to fix it? Or is it normal in a Si? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank.

Mechanic recommended synchro mesh and I've seen it used before, car had smoother shifting after old oil was replaced, but whining noise remained

go to a transmission shop and get an estimate.

well, you did not specify it was a transmission shop - can't know from my monitor...

Potentially the previous owner or you did not maintain the trans fluid properly, it got dirty and wasted a bearing.
Need to either take it back to that shop and have them listen to it or take it to a different shop.
I still feel you should have the proper fluid in it, but I doubt it will get rid of the noise

I took the car to a very trustworthy transmission shop where i live, 2 weeks after i bought it, trans fluid wasnt in bad shape, engine oil was a little dirty but not bad either and spark plugs were in good shape, had everything changed either way, engine is steady on idle, car does run strong, just the whining noise

How sure are you it's coming from the transmission? Could be something on the accessory belt (A/C, alternator, tensioner, idle pulley).

Don't own an Si but I am fairly knowledgeable with the K series engine. I haven't heard of any common issues that would cause a whining noise. On my car I did have the idle pulley bearing start making a noise most notably when accelerating. This is the pulley at the top, where the power steering pump would be on other K series engines. Don't know how much troubleshooting you've done but you really need to pinpoint where it's coming from. This can obviously be very difficult or impossible if it's not loud enough. Mine eventually started making a little noise at idle so I was able to determine the origin.
I would suggest removing the accessory belt as a test to see if the noise goes away but the would not work on the K series. The water pump is driven off the belt. You could remove the belt and spin all the pullies by hand to see if one doesn't feel smooth.

the first items about whining noise that comes when accelerating for any car (not Si related, any car) is bearings or transmission, so trans is one that popped up first.
Could be alternator, power steering (not your case), AC, etc.
Not likely to be axles/CV joint, they click when turned.
Could be wheel bearings too
