ik theres stuff on here already but how difficult is it to do a kswap? thinking of pulling a junkyeard k20 and swapping it into my ej8 with 240k og miles on the d16 but is it actually that difficult and anyone who has completed this swap a parts list? anything like that. this will be my first attempt at a swap so trying to be as prepared as possible

Lots of threads documenting K-swapping a 6th gen civic. It's not a direct swap, and will take a lot of time and money. A quick google search will tell you everything you need to know.

Since you've never done a swap before, I'd recommend a B-swap instead. It's almost bolt-in, much cheaper than a K, and much better than a D.

but what b? i want vtec and want to try to build a somewhat quick street car so around 250+ whp when its all said and done so b20 would be my best bet? considering the b18c and b are well above 2k and im not sure how much the b16s are going for but i assume somewhere around the b18

Any of them can handle that with little effort. LS/Vtec is what you’re looking for. You can piece that together in time.

yes i do and as cheap as possible but abt 5k for the swap and engine mods but it doesnt have to be NA would love to turbo down the road but for now the swap is my issue

5k is a good budget and it won’t take that to make it to your HP goal.

I say keep it a daily and buy an Si or a car with a turbo from the factory. Will go a lot further for cheaper.

well, have been longer than a decade here and the vast majority just want a swap but are not researching. AKA not reading.
to make a swap work, you need to be resourceful. Heck, even normal maintenance items, one need to be resourceful and at the first obstacle they are crying, but want to swap. Unrealistic. most of them don't finish the job.
Don't know which side you will fall into, finish or not finish, just warning it is not easy.

PS: this site was originally for 7th Gen civics and later on expanded to other generations, so information on older civics than 7th gen is very sparse in here.
