Opinions on swap from D16Y7
Opinions on swap from D16Y7
I’m looking to boost my 98 5MT SiR HB and was thinking about a B16 swap from my current D16Y7 and thought I’d ask about other (possibly cheaper) swaps that would be close to the same?

Okay, a few things to discuss here.
It entirely depends on how much power you want to make. There are tons of threads on what the best B-series block is for boost (and 6th gen engine swaps), so do some reading on that. K is an option (though more expensive). Absolute cheapest engine swap (not being D-series) would be one of the LS engines. They're everywhere.
If it was me in your position, I'd buy a B18B block and save up for a proper LS/VTEC conversion before I boost.
Also: SiR's only came in a coupe for the 6th gen's (assuming you're in Canada) and they came with a B16A2 from factory. Sounds to me like you have a DX/CX.
Don't quote me on the SiR's coming only in coupes (though I'm 99% sure that's correct) but they definitely only came with a B16.

I’m not sure how to send pictures on here but I would be more then glad to provide a couple of I an figure out how.
Re: Opinions on swap from D16Y7
okay so it would be a DX thanks for your help and opinion on the swap also isn’t a B18B also good for low psi boost? I’m not looking to have absurd power(yet) I just want it to be faster and need a block that could handle a bit of boost reliability.
Re: Opinions on swap from D16Y7
B18B will handle 250hp with no issues. Boost entirely depends on the turbo you use. Low boost on a K03 is a lot different than low boost on a 6.7 Holset.
