Re: To swap or not to swap
Speaking from my own experience I can recommend a JDM B20 (2.0L) short block paired with an Acura LS cylinder head. Will need an equivalent ECU as your current D-series ECU will not be compatible.
With a JDM B20 there is a high compression (more expensive, harder to find) and a low compression option. Another option is whether you want a Vtec head (more expensive, more work and a conversion is needed) or a non-Vtec head.

thank you for the response right now I have no budget just getting ideas cause the engine that's in it the previous owner mutilated. i will be doing the work with friends i have a shop and all and this is going to be a long term project so im not worried horribly about timing. sorry for the long response time I don't really do threads much so I forgot
It really depends on if you ever want to boost or not.
If you want to boost, DO NOT buy a b20 (thin sleeves). If you do want to boost, buy a b18b or b18c1.
Given boost is not realistic short-term, I would invest in a high-comp b20z. Great torque for a light car.
I realize the cars are different, but I'm doing this exact swap this summer in my integra. I'm able to keep everything and swap only the engine in. If you stay non-vtec it'll be super easy. I’m only saying this because the parts required are basically the same.

Reason: mispelling
Ok well thanks for that info I was hoping to find a engine that would mate with the trans that's in it cause I really don't want to replace the entire front subframe but will if needed, I do kinda want boost but like you said that ends up being a long term thing
I’m pretty sure the subframe doesn’t need to be changed. They’re almost literally drop-in, except for harness, ecu, and axles. The mounts are the same too. If you want, I’ll send you a thread that I was using earlier when I had my EG hatch.
yeah, that be awesome if you send me a link actually looked around the engine today and found a lot of problems I didn't want to see. a bunch of broken bolts in the engine, cut wires and such all crap the previous owner did.
edit: also any paint ideas the blue on it is a non-glossy pearlescent pain and its bad so I want to paint it
This is the one I used when I was going to swap my old EG. I had a whole bunch of decent parts before I realized how bad the body was. Now I'm just going to put them all in the teg. That's what I love about Honda. B-series components fit on any B-series (for the most part).
I've always loved championship white on 5th gen civics. That paired with some black RPF1's would look great.
