Looking for an ac leak

People,

2001 civic ex, ac runs cold but looses a can of gas every 2 weeks, so big leak. I washed off old ac leak detection dye off of many ac parts with engine cleaner. Waited a day after running the car for 20 miles/45 minutes, and cant find any dye residue on engine bay parts (low psi line/high psi line/compressor connections, etc). So Im wondering if its the evap. Can one get to the evap without tearing it out of the glove compartment to observe with a uv light? I understand I have to remove a few screws/glove box cover, etc to get in there. Or is this a waste of time looking for leak dye on the evaporator?

Thanks.

Check for dye evidence in the evaporator drain tube

Re: Looking for an ac leak

Thanks, ezone. No dye there, but looked closer at hoses and found oil seepage with dye on the front end of the low pressure line tube, right where the rubber hose crimps onto the aluminum section. Wow- I didnt know! Good find! Is this common with our civics?

Gonna yank it and bring to a hydraulics shop to replace the rubber. They will have to crimp on a new one, of course. then install.

Thanks, ezone. Hopefully the new hose will last a few more years.
