First off, Hello Honda community!!! I’m a first time poster, but have referred to the forums often for help/guidance with my ‘01 Odyssey (rest her sweet soul 😢.... tranny issues).
Anyhow, thanks to my Honda/JDM loving son, I’m onto my 2nd Honda.

Anyhow, I’ve had this ‘05 Civic LX for about 5 months now and I love her! She has a bit higher miles (177,000), but was WELL maintained by her previous owner.

Just within the last week when I have turned on the a/c, there has been a loud squeal sound. I’m not a car guru, but I try to know a bit. I checked the belts and they visually looked okay, but that’s about the end of my “expertise” or lack there of.
She doesn’t squeal consistently or every time and only when the blower is mid-to full blast. It’s ice cold air, so I’m thinking not the compressor itself. A bad or loose belt? A pulley?
I just don’t want to take her to a shop and be ripped off (or attempted) because I’m a female. Sadly it’s been tried many times.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Next time you hear the noise, rev your car up a little bit, it might get louder for a moment then it will stop. If that happens, it’s a tension issue. Unless you have documentation of it being replaced recently, I’d just do it. It’s a $20 belt and it’s a 30-minute job if you do it yourself.
