Exterior Rust - Used 05 Civic LX

I have a friend selling their 05 Honda Civic with 192,000 miles on it for around 2,500. I am need of an old reliable car for the next few years - don't care about looks. Attached is one of the pictures of the car. How worried shoud I be about the rust spot beneath the passenger door?

Also, is this a good price? Anything else I should look out for?

Has it had a timing belt service ??

If it was done at 105K..... it will be due again.

is that the only rust?
like CraigW said, check timing belt service history
Up here one of those with that kind of mileage would be like $1500 or less

Re: Exterior Rust - Used 05 Civic LX

Thank you both for the responses. I messaged my friend and he said that he had the timing belt checked out in July last year and it just needed to be tightened. Is recently getting it checked and maintenanced sufficient or should I ask for the last replacement date? He also said the car has had recent replacements for the alternator, AC compressor, front brakes and tires.

He confirmed that was the only rust spot. Do you think that it is purely cosmetic or could it be indicitve of greater issues? I am about 3 hours away so I can't go and personally check. I'm thinking of paying the $100 or so to have it inspected.

That sounds fishy. Get more details

Super Dead Fishy... you cant “tighten” the timing belt unless the tensioner broke and you had it replaced to tighten it back.

If indeed the tensioner broke then possible valve damage was done.

In short, your 100% ahead of the typical poster that comes here and complains of the car they just bought..

Sounds like something expensive has failed/failing and he is trying to get rid of it instead of dumping more money in.

If he can’t show receipts for timing belt changed in last 6 years, you looking at 600-1000 just for that scheduled mainance.
