7th gen, whine no start

My 05 civic lx 1.7l A/T 170k miles turned off while entering freeway. After being towed home, next day car would not turn. Battery good had auto store test battery, starter and alternator needed to be rebuilt local shop.

Car whines but won't start. Does anyone have process of things I should check?

Re: 7th gen, whine no start

To check for a broken timing belt:
Remove oil fill cap
Have someone try to start the car
Look into the oil fill hole

If you see rotational movement the belt is ok
If not then the belt is broken

Re: 7th gen, whine no start

if belt is broken, I would not try to crank further, it could damage more parts
