03 civic won't start.
Ok, I was driving the other day and the car died like it was out of gas. It will turn over but not crank up. I can hear the fuel pump come on when the key is turned. I also sprayed some starter fluid in the air intake and still nothing. Although, I checked pressure on the fuel rail and nothing came out.And I don't think its the ignition switch because all my dash lights come on. I have spark at every plug as well. Checked timing belt, its only about 3 years old, but its nice and tight and in very good condition. I still keep thinking fuel pressure isnt building up because nothing came out of fuel rail, but I can hear the pump prime up, but I know some starter fluid in the intake should fire it up for a second at least. Or does that not work with these cars lol. Also everyone says maybe fuel filter, but once again it should start with the starter fluid I would think. Every other vehicle I have had, that works. Plus while looking up location of fuel filter many people said its on the firewall. I don't have one on the firewall. And some said its on the pump. I removed the pump and don't see any sort of sock on it. Its all plastic peices. I'm assuming one of those peices is the filter, although I can't see it because I guess its enclosed in that plastic. And also when it died, I pulled over and tried cranking it again, it started to actually fire and run for a second. Since then, it just turns over. I'm stumped here, and any help would be appreciated.
Re: 03 civic won't start.
I will have to get a tester to see if any new codes popped up. In not sure yet. And the belt is so tight and still brandnew looking. I'm thinking it would have had to jump a lot to not fire at all. I checked the spark again, and its strange, sometimes there is a spark and sometimes its weak and sometimes don't spark at all. I will get new plugs and try new coils. The coils I have I got online and were supposed to be racing coils. But they were cheaper then the stock factory ones, that was 2 years ago. And my plugs look bad as well. They are VMS coils if anyone is familiar with those.
Re: 03 civic won't start.
I wouldn't spend too much on parts until you check timing. I have never seen a timing belt actually show wear but they still break from time to time. The timing belt tensioner could also be on it's way out causing slack in the belt causing the engine to jump time. Here's a DIY on checking timing.

P.S. There is another member going through basically the same issue right now. I have been recommending they check timing as well.

Re: 03 civic won't start.
I had a problem from brand new 7th Gen car with 1.7 motor.
After running for a while and stopping engine, say for gas it would crank but was hard to start.
Last year on really hot days the engine would just stop intermittently for no reason and after about 10 minutes I could start it normally again.
Eventually found the problem was the TDC Sensor failing with heat soak at garage or during really hot weather (>38deg C)
Old sensor had J5T23991 2509 PLC written on it.
I replaced it with 37840RJH006 Sensor from Honda which Supercedes J5T23991 2509 PLC
It was showing Fault Code P1361 when it was failed and hot.
Hope this helps.
