Car just turns over but wont crank
Car just turns over but wont crank
So i just replaced my head gasket, timing chain and few other gaskets on a 2004 honda civic 1.7l non-vtech. Got it all put back together and turned the key on for 5 sec and off 4 different times and went to crank it. Nothing. Finally got it to run for about 30 seconds and as it was running it reved up on its on then backed off and did it again a few more times then cut off. Turned it over a few more times and it wont start again. Anyone know whats going on.

If that doesn't solve the issue remove the spark plugs and inspect for fuel/wetness. While the plugs are out put a towel over spark plugs holes then hold gas pedal to floor and crank the engine to help blow any fuel out of the cylinders. If you have a compressor you can blow air inside the cylinders to dry them out .
Afterwards, reinstall plugs and try cranking again.

Thanks puffins. Ill try that. As of right now it is cranking but it continues to idles high then normal then high again and normal and so on. I hears it can be idle control valve or vacuum. What would it most likely be after doing a head and timing job on it. It didnt do this before i did the head gasket and timing belt.

Re: Car just turns over but wont crank
no that's draining the coolant not bleeding it. might as well do an idle relearn as well since its only 2 extra steps.
disconnect battery, wait 30 mins, reconnect battery
get the front end up on jack stands/ramps/whatever,
remove the rad cap, top up rad,
make sure all electrical loads are off (lights, interior fan, ac, etc), but the heater is set to max heat
start the car, and let it run for about 20 mins, fans should come on and off twice
top up the rad and put the cap on, make sure there the overflow bottle is properly filled.
check rad level again once the engine is cold, and keep an eye on it for the next few days.
you can rev the engine while idling to help push out air bubbles

Re: Car just turns over but wont crank
If anyone else who comes across has any idea what else it could be besides what has been said so far please let me know. Its going to be a few days before i can get back to working on it due to hurricane Michael. Id like to have most of what it could be. I know it could be the idle control valve as well.
