Car won't start - Is it the starter?
Hi all, I've used this forum numerous times to fix issues with my 01 civic. So here I am again
For the past month or so, it seems as if the starter would just "barely" start the engine. This seemed to be worse in the morning.
Yesterday I parked in front of a store, went in, came out 5 min later and wanted to start the car. It started turning over, but since it usually takes about 2-3 seconds to start, I instinctively didn't hold it long enough and it didn't start so I tried again and... nothing. Absolutely nothing. No clicking or anything. Clutch pressed all the way down.
The dash lights come on, the radio keeps playing. I called a buddy of mine and we tried jumping it thinking it was not enough juice in the battery. Nothing, nada. All I hear when I turn the key to ignition is just one click (somewhere near the fuse box in the engine bay on the passenger side) and that's it. I though it was the battery, but like I said, the radio keeps playing. Since the car is a manual, we push started it and ran just fine. I got home, parked the car in the driveway but in the morning, same thing. Won't start.
Is it just the starter that needs replacing? Is there a DIY on that? I can't seem to find it. I'm assuming it's somewhere near the tranny on the passenger side, but where exactly? Do i have to do it from under the car?

Re: Car won't start - Is it the starter?
One thing you can try is to have some one turn the key and have some tap the starter with a hammer not real hard and see if it starts or take the starter off and take it to your local auto parts and they can test the starter for you. The starter is between the battery and the air cleaner under the resonator chamber big black plastic deal. You dont have to go under the car at all I would unhook the battery and to take the resonator off its is a 10mm socket and I think the starter is a 12mm or 14mm I cant rember but their are two bolts that hold it on then you have some wires to unhook too
