What are the chances a 4x fluid change will help?

I bought a 2002 Civic EX AT with 190k where it was flaring a bit with the 2-3 shift. I tried to do a long enough test drive to make sure that was the only problem with it. I ended up buying it for $1500 and drove it 20 miles home. The next day I tried to drive another 20 miles and it left me stranded. It started hesitating on the highway like the torque converter wasn't locking. Then once I slowed to get off the interstate it wouldn't move forward at all. Eventually I got it to go forward but it was acting very sketchy. By the time I parked it wouldn't move forward or reverse. After letting it cool it will move a bit but not very well.

I had it towed home and changed the fluid once with MaxLife. It didn't seem to make much of a difference. The old fluid was purple/brown like maybe it was old Royal Purple but I'm not sure. The drain plug magnet had a few shavings and some gunk on it.

I have seen the documentation for Honda's recommendation of changing the fluid 4x with certain AT transmission issues. Before I go spend $150 on fluid, is it likely to make a difference or do I need to start looking at rebuild/replace options? I have seen threads on here where people are able to rebuild with a new clutch pack and cleaning the internal screen, and maybe a new torque converter. I am mechanically inclined enough to drop the transmission but I have never cracked open a trans before. Is it something I could figure out or does anyone have general advice on what to do here?

Any codes? I think it’s P0730 that’s considered the “death code” for the transmission.

It wasn't initially throwing a code but it did eventually. I don't have a code reader but can report back with one later today.

Likely the internal screens are clogged with clutch debris and no amount of drain and fill of Honda OEM DW-1 ATF will bring it back to life. Don't mean to be blunt but I've gone through this with an Odyssey (I threw in the towel on this trans) and currently have an Acura EL with the potentially same issues but no problems yet at 140 K miles. I have however done a drain and fill of Honda DW-1 ATF every 3rd oil change on the EL given my past experience with the Odyssey.
