currently have a 2000 civic LX started throwing a P0420 code so i went ahead and replaced the downstream O2 sensor and cleared the code, check engine light came back about 50 miles later and is giving the same code. my question is hypothetically of course is there any way to "dummy " the O2 sensor and rewire it so that it wont send a code for the catalytic convertor and would that be cheaper than buying a new cat and replacing it myself. A new cat with all new gaskets is 100$ and i can do that myself no problem just wandering if there is a simpler and cheaper fix.
