What’s the purpose of the ICM?
What’s the purpose of the ICM?
Got no spark, again. Replaced the ignition coil a few months ago and everything ran fine for a while, but now I seem to have a different no-spark issue. Tested the coil and got ~16k from spring to terminal and 0.6 between terminals. Decided to check the ICM on the bench with a pwm generator and o-scope and I get only a high output. There is no alternating signal to drive the coil. I assume the ICM provides an alternating ground source for the coil when an alternating input from the crankshaft sensor is seen.
I grabbed another dizzy from the junkyard, but its ICM also gave me only a high output. Do I have 2 bad ICMs or am I not testing this the correct way?
What function is the ICM serving here? Is it supposed to provide an alternating ground source with induction kickback protection from the coil?
