Re: 98 civic misfiring [solved]

with the head off?
you will need to check the dizzy position (I am unfamiliar with the dizzy in D engines, sorry) there might be something in the manual in the link

thank you. I have TDC cylinder 1 set prior to removing head. Cam is set to “up” at top of gear. Head going on. I’ll assemble rest tomorrow morning.

Re: 98 civic misfiring [solved]

Guys, 180* off is not possible. With the cam "UP" mark pointing down, cylinder 1 is still at TDC. So, you would rotate the crank one full rotation bringing the camshaft 180* to TDC with it ("UP" mark now pointing up). This is why I mentioned the crank turns twice for every one rotation of the camshaft.

Well can’t argue timing now. Crank and cam are lined up.

Re: 98 civic misfiring [solved]

So far so good. Seems to have a lot of power now when driving. I’ll have to test drive it on a longer drive to work and back. Check for leaks and give it a week to make sure all is well.

this engine feels right this time. 🙏

thank you all for the guidance, I have learned so much about this car is such a short time. Also that civic shop manual is the best!

well like @BrotatoChip mentioned. I couldn’t have been 180* just not possible. But I may have been a tooth off? Anyways it doesn’t matter I’m happy it’s running.

The shop was $600 cheaper versus the other shop I got a quote from. How does the saying go? … cheaper isn’t always better.
