Upper Inner Timing cover

Maybe im blind as a bat and cant find any information but does anyone know if the head needs to be removed to replace the upper inner timing cover, i have the part ordered (somehow i found it) and its suppose to get here way later then i plan to put on the head but in need the car to be driveable asap, i understand that the car needs it but i was just gonna leave the old and a little melted one on till i could get the new one

Are you talking about item 7 in this pic? I seem to remember the camshaft having to be removed (or at least the pulley) to get that piece out. It's been a while though.

yeah thats the one, i just thought you didnt have to remove the head but i just wanted to see if anyone has done it and knew just go be safer, bc ik engine can be difficult like that, and i wouldnt wanna waste that time putting it on just take it off a week later,

it does look like you just have to remove the cam gear, but wasnt too sure, your reply kinda seems like that may just be it

You definitely don't have to remove the head. I think timing belt/tensioner and then the cam pulley in order to get that out. If it were me, I'd probably be ignoring it unless it were causing some obvious issues.
