Car cranks doesn’t start

Okay so I recently changed the distributor on my 00’ civic ex because it was misfiring while it was parked and also it wouldn’t go past 20 mph so I decided to change it. While attempting to cut it on multiple times and press the gas pedal I didn’t notice that there was a damaged bolt on the starter and each time I kept trying to start it messed up the starter to the point it broke. So now I needed to get a starter which I did and I changed it made sure the spark plugs were good and in order. I attempted to start the vehicle with how I did it before and it cranks but the dash lights are dim. I attempted to jump start the vehicle to see if it was the battery that needed to be changed but even with a jump it didn’t start. I’m thinking it’s something like the alternator or something fuel related. Anyone know of any possible solutions. I was going to take off alternator and battery to go test them but it’s raining where I live and my car is parked outside so any little help or tips is appreciated.

Re: Car cranks doesn’t start

First, take your battery to a parts store to be tested for it's ability to hold a charge and it's cranking amperage output. If it doesn't hold a charge replace it. If it does hold a charge ask the parts store to charge it fully before you pick it up.

Was the distributor you purchased a Honda genuine (oem) part or an aftermarket part? Aftermarket distributors (especially the coil and ignitor) generally do not work as well (or at all) compared to Honda genuine parts. Is it getting spark through the wires via a spark/arc test?

If you want to know if it's getting fuel through the fuel rail disconnect the fuel tank return line from the fuel pressure regulator. Have a helper crank the engine, use a bucket or bottle to catch gas from fuel rail, you hold the bucket and watch for fuel flow when cranked.

Watch the video I'm my signature at the bottom of this reply to learn how to test the coil.
