My car is a 98 civic lxi and last weekend just had the head gasket replaced since the issue was very apparent (coolant shooting out the radiator, very dirty coolant). Other than replacing it with a new head gasket, i also had the radiator replaced with an aftermarket one since the old(also aftermarket) one was kinda bit tired as well. Flushed the system, replenished it with new fluids, alls well and good but still loses coolant like about a 100ml or so in the overflow tank. Radiator's filled up to the brim so ig that means coolant still goes back into the radiator once the engine's cooled down. I've been searching on the forums and it seems like noone has such an experience to mine, or that im too lazy to dig deeper. My hunch and my dad's as well is that the system is still 'flexxing' and that once everything's settled in it'll solve itself.
Unfortunately i dont have access to an air compressor right now, would lifting the nose up and checking to see if any bubbles come out once the engine's up to temp still be okay? Before we had the hg replaced it took a good 20 mins or so until the bubbling came out. Well, before it got very worse that is.
Update: so i did what colin42 said and check if the system was fully bled. Around 10 mins the coolant started to get dirty and bubbles started to appear, as well as a fine thin film of oil on top of the coolant. I gave it a couple of revs and the bubbles start to get bigger. Also a little bit of frothing on the top. So this means that the mechanic didnt give a proper good job then?
