D16y7 misfire, rough idle, oil in radiator,
1999 Honda Civic Dx Hatch, 220000 miles
• The car currently runs terrible. It has a rough idle and the exhaust putts out of the muffler. The check engine light is blinking on and off. Ran some codes and I misfires. There’s a faint ticking noise coming from engine.
• while the car is running I pulled the spark plug wire off cylinder one. Nothing happened. The engine reacts when I do it to the other cylinders.
• I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, distributor rotor and the fuel injectors.
I tapped the end of the spark plug wire on the valve cover and it sparks.
• Oil is in the radiator - but it’s not over heating and there is neither white or black smoke coming out of exhaust.
• It drips oil moderately. A lot of oil has collected under the distributor on the trans from the leaking.
-so I changed the distributor ring/ seal.
Could be oil leaks in other places but I check my oil no less than every other day and top off if needed.
• I’ve used over the counter products in an attempt to help. I Ran sea foam through the brake booster to cut the carbon off valves. Used some gasket sealer through the radiator. Changed my oil over to 10w30 and put Lucas in it. - no change
I’ve done all the dyi troubleshooting within my scope of knowledge.
I could get a compression test and leak down test but for what I would pay to have that performed I could basically have a local machine shop recondition the cylinder head and get a eBay head gasket kit.
I’m thinking it could be a valve not closing all the way so maybe it needs valve seals or guides.
perhaps it’s the rings
Any insight would be helpful and I’d appreciate it.
