Engine leak

Wondering if anyone can help me out. Can’t tell if this is from vtec solenoid or just the valve cover gasket leaking what do you think.

Re: Engine leak

Looks like it's leaking from the valve cover or distributor o-ring. Both are common sites for oil leak. Distributor o-ring leak oil usually goes straight down and on top of transmission. Can't rule out a Vtec gasket (to cylinder head) leak though.

Try tightening the valve cover bolts to service manual spec.
Remove distributor (notch a mark for ignition timing if not one present) and look for oil underneath. Also, while the distributor is off inspect the coolant heater (directly underneath the distributor) for bulging, weakness, splits. That hose can become deteriorated from hot oil if the distributor o-ring is leaking oil onto it, which can lead to low coolant and possibly overheat and blown headgasket.

If you are referring to the heater hose under the distributor..yes, it's easy to change. Did you check the heater hose under the distributor for wear, damage yet? Did you find the source of oil leak?

yeah looks like it’s coming from the dizzy and valve cover. And the hoses look swelled and starting leaking coolant yesterday.there was a spot of coolant under the car and smelled it. No over heat tho. It was the first time I had ran it in a week so I need to get it fixed ASAP.

Good thing you found that before it causes low coolant and head gasket issues. Anyway, parts stores should have that heater hose for your car. Replace that hose and the U-shaped bypass hose on the back of the firewall side of engine. After replacing hoses you will need to bleed coolant of air by:

1) Raise front of car on jackstands (radiator neck higher than engine/cylinder head).
2 ) Set climate control to max heat and fan off
3) Remove radiator cap, optionally use a spill proof funnel kit (highly recommend), start engine and let idle, add 50/50 coolant mix as needed to top up to radiator neck. Also, ensure reservoir is at full mark.
4) Bleed at idle until radiator fan engages (roughly 20-30 minutes).
5) When very few or no bubbles are seen turn engine off, allow to engine to fully cool and the top up coolant in radiator and reservoir to proper levels.
6) Check radiator and reservoir levels while engine is cold everyday for a week to ensure no loss of coolant in system.
