D16y8 revving up and down, higher then normal idle

Hey guys really need some help, I have a 96 ex d16y8 5speed, the other day I made an emergency run with the fire dept when I went to leave the station I started my car and it started revving up and down and done this for a couple min. I gave it a lil gas and was still revving up and down while my foot staying constant on the gas, when I let off the gas it died. When I tried starting it back it would hit and die, hit and die. Tried again giving it gas and it fired up and stayed running. I had to drive it to work this morning cause my trucks down, if I'm driving 55mph or slower its sluggish and has no power till about 65-70 and runs great down the interstate at a steady 85mph. Taking off from a dead stop is like the e-break is on, pulling into my road one 2nd just had no power to pull. And its idling higher then normal. And ideas? Any help is much appreciated

Your IACV might be dirty. You can try cleaning it.

In addition to cleaning the IACV (and gasket screen) as GolNat stated...clean the throttle body and check the slack in the throttle cable as well starting form the firewall to the throttle body. Beyond that inspect for vacuum leaks via a smoke test. If it has cruise control follow the vacuum tubing from the cruise controller (driver side near motor mount) to where that tubing connects to a nipple on the intake manifold. Make sure that tubing is connected and doesn't have splits in the hose.

Air in the coolant can also cause erratic revving. May have to bleed the coolant of air?

Thanks for the tips guys, I cleaned the iacv, checked for vacuum leaks (didnt find any) and went ahead and changed spark plugs. it's running a little better hasn't revved up and down, and will pull up my drive way just fine now, but still has a high idle, still sluggish at low rpms, and every other time I start it, it straight up just dies and have to hold the gas to keep it running. The throttle linkage is good and tight, the coolant was full also, I havent cleaned the throttle body yet.
