Questions on extracting snapped spark plug, and anything else I to do while I'm at it
First time Civic owner - was just given a '96 DX w/ D16Y7 engine. Spark plugs were all stuck. Managed to get 3 out with a lot of soaking in penetrating fluid, but the 4th snapped. Tried extracting it in place, but my extractor snapped. So, I guess the cylinder head is coming off... Got a few questions.
1. While I have things taken apart, anything else I might want to check/replace/modify/upgrade while I'm at it?
2. Any tips for getting the remains of the old plug out? Basic plan right now is to hammer the broken extractor out from the back, drill the plug out a little more once I can get it in my drill press, soak both sides in penetrating fluid, then use a larger extractor.
3. For reference, I'm using the Honda service manual (First Edition 8/99). Is there a different reference document you'd suggest?
4. To revive the eternal debate, I'm planning on going with NGK 2477 ZFR5FIX-11 Iridium IX for the new plugs, with a small amount of Permatex copper anti-seize on the threads. Any opinions on those?
Thanks for any input! Looking forward to being more active here once I have a chance to really start working on this.

Re: Questions on extracting snapped spark plug, and anything else I to do while I'm a
I had a seized plug on a junkyard head. After having no success with a 3' braker bar, Iended up using an impact gun, and she came right out.
not sure if that will work with your situation though.
if you remove the head
-keep track of valve order, and reinstall in same spots
replace
-head studs
-head gasket
-valve seals
-cam seal
-piston rings (not necessary but might as well)
-adjust valve clearance if needed
